The Institute of Sustainable Design and Construction Management, Ghana (ISDCM-G) is a newly founded educational and professional development institution that aims to offer training, policy and research the construction industry of Ghana.
The ISDCM-G has a focus on being the voice for promoting sustainable design and construction in Ghana.
In recent times, one does not need to look much further to see why sustainability has become a hot-button issue. Sustainability which can simply be defined as “meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”, has become an issue for all humans.
With the construction industry being responsible for nearly 40% of all greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) and about 35% of waste. It is simply the right thing to do for the course of sustainability to be championed by the key stakeholders of the Construction industry such as Architects, Engineers, Construction Managers and Contractors by adopting sustainable practices from planning through post construction.
Owners must initiate projects with sustainability requirements.Designers must design with sustainability in mind and Construction Managers must ensure contractors are building with sustainability means and methods.
Kofi Annan, once said “
“The world is reaching the tipping point beyond which climate change may become irreversible. If this happens, we risk denying present and future generations the right to a healthy and sustainable planet – the whole of humanity stands to lose.”
Sustainability has become vital for our existence, therefore we should all get involved in our own small ways to leave a good legacy for posterity.
